Bayahibe Patronales started this year Sunday April 24th and the closing night was Monday May 2nd which was a holiday (Labor day), so everybody had a day off and could enjoy the final party. Even though this year the weather didn’t cooperate too much, the rain was coming down pretty hard some nights, we had a nine day long fiesta with lot of activities, music, dancing, good food and drinks, of course including local drinks Presidente beer and Brugal rum.
But what is Patronales ? It is a yearly festival in honor of Bayahibe patron saint La Divina Pastora, who was in the past called upon to bless and protect the fishermen. Lately she has been called on to help with growing tourism that became the major source of income in Bayahibe community.
April 24 – the oficial opening by the members of the Bayahibe council and Patronales comité, the new Miss Bayahibe Patronales 2016 Anyi Daviana Brito was crowned
April 25 – kids fashion show by local designer Freddy Berroa, after that music and dancing by Ministry of Tourism group
April 26 – Be Live Collection Canoa team
April 27 – Hotel Viva Wyndham team
April 28 – Fashion Show by Freddy Berroa, Hotel Catalonia Grand Dominicus team
April 29 – as for few years in a row now, group Ruta Telemicro from Santo Domingo
April 30 – Hacienda Iberostar team and a surprise after, a Mexican Mariachi band
May 1 – Dreams La Romana team – as always the best at the end
May 2 – the closing ceremony and a show by a known group Musicologo, the biggest party of this year Patronales
After each official presentation the fun continued, dancing bachata, merengue and salsa, having outdoor party while enjoying the local music till midnight (or longer 🙂 ).
As you can see, the festivities were full of colors and shows performed by the entertainment groups from the hotels in our area. Big thank you goes to the La Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association for being part of the celebrations every year. Also to all organizers for their hard work to prepare the fun week, all supporters including Presidente, Brugal, local restaurants and business to make it all possible. Also thanks to the visitors for joining the fun and see you all at Patronales 2017 next April or May!
